For Christmas last year my mother in law gave me The Pioneer Woman’s Cookbook….

Amazing recipes that my husband (the die-hard meat and potato man) LOVES!

This woman cooks for her four kids, husband and numerous cowboys. She knows what she is talking about!!

One of our new favorite recipes is her BBQ Meatball recipe (click for the link!) and although her version is fabulous, I have changed one thing.

Instead of browning the meatballs and then baking it all…I just pop my meatballs in boiling water.

Yes, you heard me right.

I learned this trick a long time ago from I can’t remember where. And I love it.

Really and truly you boil a pot of water, roll up your meatballs however you normally make them (salt/pepper/egg/oatmeal/etc) and then just gently drop them into the pot of boiling water! After the last meatball is in, set the timer for 7 minutes and ta da!

Your meatballs are cooked and a lot of the fat floats to the top making them that much more healthy! (Good ol’ red meat!)

Make sure you watch the pot…has a tendency to boil over…not fun. And I ladle the fat off the top as it boils.

Then I just finish the rest of the meatball recipe…yummy!!

Hope you enjoy and let me know what you think! I’m pretty sure it’ll be a hit for dinner!

Unusual decor…

A while back I posted about The Pioneer Woman, Ree Drummond’s kitchen that I LOVE, where she used wooden deer heads. It was something I had never seen that before but now I see them everywhere! I think this is a sign we need them in the house…

*Have to say, I love everything about this living room…the orange, the lamps, the shelves, the cowhide rug, I could go on for hours!*

*Again, cowhide…is this a theme?!*

*Love the matching but not matching set here*

 *Love this kitchen too!*

Peely Paint Rusty Vintage White Room

*Teal, chocolate and wooden deer head…can’t get better than that!*

*Not so hot for the minimalistic look. What are your thoughts?*

*Loving the white shed light in this one too!*

Have a great day!

New favorite salad recipe…

I came across this salad recipe on Tasty Kitchen, my favorite recipe site.

Ok, that’s a little lie.

It’s the only cooking site I have ever bothered to look through…can you tell I “love” to cook?!

What do sites do you like/love? I should be on the look out for more because harvest meals are just around the corner!

This salad is so good and is different from the usual….

Look of the week ~ Reese Witherspoon

This week’s look is Reese Witherspoon…I adore her movies and am super-pysched that she is slated to possibly star in a movie called Black Heels to Tractor Wheels. This is the title of an upcoming book written by my FAVORITE blogger Ree Drummond, it’s a true story about how she (a city girl) met and married her rancher husband…for those not familiar check out her blog The Pioneer Woman and read the first half of the story here….sooo good! Anyways, her book is apparently set to be released around Valentine’s Day 2011 and the movie rights have already been picked up and Reese is considering playing Ree….omigawd!! Could you imagine?! I would want either Reese or Kate Hudson to play me…I better hurry up and get my book done!! 😉 Until then, I’ll just have to love and copycat her look, with of course my Farmer’s Trophy Wife twist!

Deer Heads in the Kitchen?

Have I mentioned that I love “The Pioneer Woman“…Ree Drummond?!?

If you have no idea who I am talking about, the short version is…she’s a mom of 4, rancher’s wife and a blogger. She has a site “The Pioneer Woman” that she started about three years ago and is now raking in just under a million a year from it….The advertising space on it sells for big bucks because she gets like tens of thousands of readers everyday! Craziness….

Anyways, I discovered her before Christmas and spent an afternoon reading her archives about their renovation of a guest house on their ranch…they basically gutted the entire thing and started over.

I now am itching to reno…..the style of the house is gorgeous and I want it! The first thing that caught my eye was the kitchen…

I love this kitchen not because I am a chef by any stretch of the imagination, but because I adore the open concept and think the deer heads are fantastic. My husband on the other hand, disagrees…

He can’t imagine why anyone would hang deer heads in a kitchen…that aren’t real.

“Why would you spend money on wood deer heads when you won’t let me hang my trophy ones in the house?!?”

Hmmmm…he’s got me there…ok, so no deer heads…

But can I have the rock wall and cement countertops?

Claire Soup

What is Claire Soup you ask?!?

Only the bestest, easiest, fastest soup in the west! (Yes…I think I’m funny!) It is a soup that my husband named after my sister after he tried it for the first time.

It’s his thing…if it’s fantastic and he really, really, really wants you to make it again, it gets named after you! I have a chili….(from The Pioneer Woman cookbook…but don’t tell him that, he thinks I’m amazing!!!)

Anyways…my sister got this recipe from Rachael Ray…and it’s the best!

1 can of beef or chicken broth

1 cup water

1 package of tortellini

1 cup of grated cheese

Boil the broth/water, add as much tortellini as you want, when noodles are ready, put into bowls and cover in cheese. SO GOOD!!!!!!

Gettin’ Pretty…

Just wanted to share a couple things that I adore.

1)Using lanolin for my chapped lips. Yes, I am well aware that this is nipple cream. And no, that doesn’t bother me in the least! I figured that if it’s great for that, it would be fab for my lips…and it is!! I hardly ever need to put lip stuff on any more, unlike before when I felt like I was applying in every 10 minutes. And if you are little freaked out over breaking out in front of your friends, just put it into an old lip gloss pot…no one will ever know…

2)Using a vinegar rinse for my hair. I learned about this from my dear, dear friend Ree…okay, she might not know I exist, but I love her and her blog…The Pioneer Woman…. Just fill a bottle 50/50 vinegar (apple cider vinegar smells a little better) and water and pour it over your hair in the last bit of your shower. Let it sit for a few minutes and rinse away. It does magical things for people with hard/soft water, or who use products…I LOVE this! It has made a difference with just a few applications..or it’s all in my head…either way, I like it!

3) Now…just need something magical to help lose this baby weight….
